MiSTer4K HDMI I/O Board

To end this month’s newsletter, we wanted to show off something a little different. This is an experimental concept called the “MiSTer 4K” (IO Board), which as the name implies, is an IO/add-on board for the de10-nano based MiSTer. To our knowledge this is the first attempt to use the IO board slot on MiSTer for digital video output, not to mention at 4K with all of the features of our flagship Morph 4K product. It can also power the MiSTer over USB-C and includes a physical power switch, or if you prefer, you can power it from your MiSTer. It can be controlled using an IR remote, a CEC remote, or using our WiFi Web interface.

Now why do we call it an experimental concept? Because as with things which push technical boundaries, we still need to test it and evaluate thermal/power limits with a 4K video processor strapped to the top of the MiSTer. Not to mention hitting an acceptable target cost on a 12 layer PCB where no expense was spared and quality components are used across the board. Fingers crossed that it will work out and we can deliver something truly special for FPGA gaming fans.
